I always try to get as much information as possible before I attend for the first time, either over the phone or in a message or email. - I like to request photos where possible, or ask for any details that can help me to give a diagnosis, so I can then provide an accurate quote. - If I'm attending a property for a customer who is locked out, I will ask them for proof of identity and ownership, - if they don't have such evidence on their person, it is often possible and acceptable for it to be provided it once the door is opened, before I leave.

I am a time served locksmith and have a degree in engineering. GL_Locks does not currently have an accreditation but is wanting to become an MLA approved company in the near future.

For as long as I can remember I have always been interested in locks and I have picked and bypassed different lock types as a hobby for many years... - I worked in a locksmith shop for a couple of years when I left school but wanted to go to college to study aircraft engineering. After many years and lots of training I became an aircraft mechanic and went on to work for 15 years as a contractor. My job took me all over the world but mainly I stayed in Europe, and with additional effort alongside my job I eventually achieved becoming a B1 Licensed Aircraft Engineer. - I've always been mechanically minded, I enjoy and am good at fixing things. - For me it wasn't a great leap or a hard decision to exchange my life working as an aircraft mechanic, always travelling all over the place, for the chance to start my own business as a locksmith here in Gloucester. I was totally ready for that change, that new challenge, and more than ready to finally be settled in one place... GL_Locks is my future now.

GL_Locks works with Landlords and property management companies in Gloucestershire in addition to working for private individual customers and business owners. - We are also currently looking into doing work for Gloucester local authorities and offer non-destructive access and boarding-up services for the council.

I recently installed a master suite of locks at a private health-care facility. I've initially fitted 18 locks at the hospital, on their own restricted key profile, but there is scope for the suite to be expanded as and when required. - This will be an on-going project between the client and GL_Locks as they have a vision for the future and it required that foresight being designed into the master suite network from day one.

Unfortunately our industry is largely unregulated and does have a number of unscrupulous individuals trading within it. - I understand that if you're locked out of your house or car you need a locksmith urgently and most people will do a search online with their phone or on a computer. The problem then becomes apparent because at the top of most search result pages there are almost always a number of paid for adverts (these themselves are not the problem, many legitimate companies pay for adverts to have their business rank high on search results), but the things that people should look out for, and avoid, are national companies in general - nobody wants to call a call-center somewhere else in the country to organise a locksmith to attend for them, nor do they want to pay the higher tariffs associated with these companies, and quite often wait a very long time for them to show up... However the biggest danger comes from the companies offering a locksmith service for £39/£45/£49 etc - This is a lie, that will be the call out charge only. It is a 'from' price and you never get charged the amount you originally see in the advert. The final bill you get will be many times that amount and these companies are known to employ intimidation tactics and will often threaten you into paying to get their money. These are nationwide blanket scams run by people who aren't local at all but will have someone working for them within your area who isn't trained or competent and who is encouraged to drill your lock even if it doesn't need replacing, this is known as 'bait and switch' - they hook you in with a promise of a £39 bill, then drill your lock and try to sell you a new one for an extortionate amount. - Always look deeper at the company you're choosing, they are coming to your house, car or place of work, do they look like an honest local business? You can normally decipher a legitimate local company from a dodgy national one it just takes a a few more moments. - My advice to anyone worried about the above is to choose a locksmith that is approved by the MLA - they are a governing body and standards association and none of the dodgy charlatans out there are MLA approved.

I advise clients/customers to look into any company that they are thinking about using, even if its just to see it they are who they say they are and if all the details on the company correspond and match throughout all the citations and listings. - People should check out the website associated with the business, and the Google profile - and have a look at some of the reviews for them too... - Always ask for an estimate or a quote, - any legitimate locksmith should be able to provide at least a ball-park figure even if the job is complex, nobody wants a surprise bill after work has started or been completed.
