Having moved house numerous times, I always redesigned and decorated the house. This brought clients through word of mouth.

Professional and retired

Preparing a house in order to be rented out to young professional people. The house belonged to an elderly gentleman, who liked his dark wood. It was a very small cottage which needed to be brightened up and made to appear larger. I enjoyed having the freedom to transform this house, using pastel shades and smaller, light coloured furniture, glass surfaces and clever use of mirrors to help make the house appear much more spacious. It took four weeks to complete, having redecorated every room, re decorated kitchen cupboards, changed curtains and blinds and altered colours schemes. Taking down all dark wood corner units, removing dark mats and cushions and re covering dining chairs.

I would advise that they find someone who understands their particular style and listens to what they require, being prepared to take the designers advice if they are unsure, making absolutely sure that the designer knows their likes and dislikes. To agree costing and budget before the work begins and discuss time scale, work involved and availability.
