Our guide to a healthier, happier you;
Healthy Habit - More water please!
We all know that water is a must when it comes to a good diet and glowing skin but there's more to water than promoting healthy eating and hydration. Drinking water rinses away food particles and any lingering bacteria in your mouth. It won't replace the need to brush or floss, but the zero sugar content makes it the best drink for teeth full stop.
Healthy Habit - Floss is boss
You've probably heard our hygienist say it 100 times but it is really important to floss between your teeth. Imagine if you only cleaned the front of your car each time you washed it? It is the same principle for when you clean your teeth. If you only brush the front of your teeth, you're reaching less than 50% of the tooth surfaces. Even the smallest gaps between teeth can trap food and harbour bacteria which causes decay.
Healthy Habit - Five a day fruit and veg
Particularly greens and crunchy vegetable's such as celery and carrots are full of vitamins and minerals including Iron, Vitamin C and D which help maintain healthy teeth and bones. Lots of creative snacks can be made out of these as an alternative to sticky, sweet treats.
Healthy Habit - Your teeth aren't bottle openers
Our teeth are really strong. In fact, enamel is the strongest substance in the body, but it doesn't mean that our teeth are un-breakable. Your teeth help you chew food and speak-they were not made for chewing pencils, pens or opening bottles which can cause irreparable damage to your teeth and jaw.
Although these easy habits won't keep your teeth healthy on their own, along with regular dental health checks with us here at oral design and instructions on proper flossing and brushing techniques by Kirsty, our lovely hygienist you'll be well on the way to healthy teeth and gums in no time!
